futon. Yes this too from Craigslist, was only $100. It is really nice and made of microfiber. That said I will still put a cover on it. I love how the morning sun dapples. Here you can see the windows trimmed out. If you look back you will see the one window I had trimmed before but it was not right so I redid it. I ordered my fabric last week and cannot wait to hand the drapes (oh yes I have to make them). They will add a great splash of color. My sewing will be very simple-sew straight lines only and use rings to hang the curtains. A straight line I can sew.

nail gun, but I did not shoot Ken with it, although he was paranoid that I would. Advice to do it yourselfers-don't wait, buy one of these! Why we waited all these years-I love this thing! So much easier to put up trim, boards etc. So thanks to this handy tool we were able to get three windows completely trimmed out as well as some doors. Also hung the wood sheets in the bedroom and finished the beadboard! Successful weekend.

I decided I should call the guy that put the windows in "Butch the Butcher".   After finishing out windows and doors I decided he must never measure or use a level.  What a nightmare.  Trim and paint do hide a lot of sins!

We are suppose to get anywhere from 7 to 24 inches of rain due to the hurricane.  If we get 24 inches I will be amazed.  Thinking the weather guys will do anything to get more camera time!   What a spread in possibilities!   So it looks like another week and no septic will go in.   We really need water turned on so we can do simple things like mop the floor!

Knock three times....twice on the pipes if the answer is

Well everything is now plumbed-yes we have pipes.   But water is still not connected.  Our progress was slow and limited his weekend as we  had some friends down and decided to relax and not just work.  That said, I took off Friday and cleaned the pigpen, ah I mean cabin up.  How can guys create such a mess and not see it.  Oh well,  at least when I was done you could walk through it.  On Sunday I was moving a table with a paint can on it-BAD DECISION, well you guessed it it fell off, lid came off and about 1/3 gallon of white trim paint went on the new floor.  Never fear-the handy craftsman wet vac to the rescue.  I sucked up all I could and then we wiped up the rest with wet wipes.  Remember we still do not have running water!    Tired loading a picture but the site is having problems.    So other than painting some trim, patching some sheetrock (my least favorite thing to do) , and hanging one piece of beadboard and one sheet of plastic stuff in the bathroom we made little progress.  But hey-we are free labor!   

I finally have figured out how I am going to do the drapes without spending an arm and a leg.  I also found a great deal on craigslist for iron railing that we will use around the deck-if we ever get that far.

Lastly, big score at garage sale this weekend.  Found one of those fold up table with storage for the chairs.  Perfect and only $50 bucks!

She bangs, she bangs

Yes today I banged as I  put up  trim on doors and one window.  Many more to go, but I pretty much have it down so the rest should go quicker.  Also, was able to get first coat of paint on two exterior doors, as well as one interior and the beadboard wall.   Not bad progress for a few hours.   Melissa helped-oh yes and then there was the broken saw.  Thank goodness for Wally World.

The colors that are real, stay with me and you will see....

Ok-one of my favorite parts-the decorating-picking some fabric to make nice soft touches to the place.  So I am going to make very simple curtains-ya know just sew a straight line kind of curtains and some pillows.  The place needs COLOR.  These colors are muted (yet stronger than they look in  the photo)  but they are very calming-which is what we want the Cabin or cottage to be.  So, I may use the striped fabric for the curtains as it will make rooms seem taller.  The other reason is it makes it easy to sew on the straight line!   The more geometric will probably show up on pillows along with the plain fabric.

It all works with the paint color which is great because I sure did not want to repaint.  Maybe I should call it the zen cabin-all you see out the windows is trees-kind of like being in a tree house.

So now-we have many finishing touches-trim remainder of windows, paint and more paint.   We need to find a decent priced plumber this week!   Then for the big work outside-build the deck-Ken and I are going to do it (lets hope the marriage can withstand this tasks!).   Lastly, we need to skirt or finish off the building, oh yes after we do the nasty job on insulating underneath it.
